Morigaon, Dec 26: The newly elected auxiliary committee of Morigaon district’s Karunadhara Trust, an organisation inspired by the humanitarian ideals of renowned journalist Homen Borgohain, formally assumed office on Thursday. The ceremony was held at Nipun Deka Smriti Bhawan of Muhila Home Model School, Morigaon.
The general meeting, convened to mark the formation of the new committee, was presided over by Ashok Deka, president of the outgoing auxiliary committee. At the outset, the gathering observed a moment of silence and paid floral tributes in memory of youth icon late Jubin Garg, eminent flautist Dipak Sarma, educationists Narendra Nath Keot and Dr Nabakanta Bordoloi, and student leader Jayanta Kumar Deka.
Secretary of Karunadhara Trust, Mileswar Patar, outlined the objectives of the meeting and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian service, particularly among students and youth. The meeting resolved to strengthen its efforts to promote social responsibility, ethical values and community welfare across the district.
During the session, Mileswar Patar was elected president of the newly formed auxiliary committee, with Kamal Deka appointed as working president. Jagadish Nath was elected secretary.
The newly constituted body also raised concern over the living conditions of sweeper families residing at the municipal dumping ground on the banks of the Morakalang waterbody. The committee appealed to the district administration to take immediate steps for their rehabilitation and relocation to a safer and more humane environment.
The meeting concluded with a call for collective action to uphold the Trust’s founding vision of compassion, dignity and social justice.
