MARGHERITA, Sept 12: Panchakarma Therapy’s new room was inaugurated on Thursday by Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma at Margherita FRU Civil Hospital in the presence of Dr Sanat Kumar Dutta, deputy superintendent (i/c) of Margherita FRU Civil Hospital; Dr Sashindra Barman, Panchakarma Therapy specialist and Margherita sub-divisional medical officer; Anand Kumar Sharma, chairman of Margherita Municipal Board; Jyotish Rai, representative of Margherita FRU Civil Hospital, in the absence of MLA Bhaskar Sharma; all doctors, nurses, and the managing committee of Margherita FRU Civil Hospital.
Panchakarma Therapy at Margherita Civil Hospital has transformed the lives of thousands of people, becoming a boon for critical patients who seek treatment from other parts of Assam, such as Nalbari, Gohpur, Sipajhar, Mangaldoi, Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Teok, Janji, Jorhat, Moran, Golaghat, Kakopather, Borpathar, Naharkatiya, Duliajan, Namrup, Sadiya, Tinsukia district, and even from the neighbouring state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Dr Sashindra Barman, sub-divisional medical officer (SDMO) and in charge of Panchakarma Therapy at Margherita FRU, said that on March 8, 2019, he started Panchakarma Therapy at Margherita Civil Hospital, with substantial support from then Margherita sub-divisional officers Preeti Kumari (IAS) and Pabitra Kumar Das, then deputy superintendent of Margherita Civil Hospital Dr Kumud Chandra Das, Tinsukia district deputy commissioner Swapneel Paul, and Tinsukia district joint health directors GS Gogoi and Jayanta Bhattacharya.
Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma said that under the guidance of Dr Sashindra Barman, Panchakarma Therapy has cured hundreds of critical patients. He added that he has discussed with Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, minister of AYUSH, and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma the need for more infrastructure and the latest equipment at Margherita FRU Civil Hospital. A new hundred-bed building is under construction at Margherita FRU Civil Hospital, which will be inaugurated soon to accommodate patients from remote areas under the Margherita sub-division.
More than 700 patients suffering from major diseases such as neurological problems, lumbar spondylitis, surgical spondylitis, slip disc, hydronephrosis, small renal calculi, pancreatitis, fatty liver, deep jaundice, severe injuries, and varicose veins have been cured through Panchakarma Therapy at Margherita Civil Hospital. Dr Sashindra Barman expressed hope that both the state and Union governments will provide more infrastructure and facilities since Margherita FRU Civil Hospital’s Panchakarma Therapy is the only such centre in the entire north-eastern states.
