DIPHU: In accordance with Karbi traditions, Moniram Rongphar has been installed as the village head (Rong Asar) of Rongchingri, Theso Ajur, 5th Miles, Lumding Road.
The installation ceremony took place at Rongphar’s residence, marking the official recognition of his authority. Vophong Asar, Longsing Bey, emphasized that the installation of Moniram Rongphar as the traditional village headman followed customary practices.
As part of the rituals, a hen and a pig were sacrificed on the previous night, symbolising the installation of Rong Asar. In the morning prior to the installation ceremony, a Vur matha (poultry sacrifice) was conducted to ensure the well-being of Rongphar.

Vophong Asar, Longsing Bey, along with Longri Asar Prabhat Chandra Terang and Chom Akleng Chandra Tokbi, wrapped a turban consisting of a long white cloth around Rongphar’s head, signifying his official status as Rong Asar.
Vophong Asar, Longsing Bey, stated that with the turban-wrapping, Rongphar is now officially recognised as the Rong Asar of Rongchingri, Theso Ajur.
He will have the authority to resolve any disputes within the village and his decisions or orders will be respected by the villagers. Rongphar is now eligible to participate in Rong Asar meetings. The installation ceremony was attended by Johny Timung, Member of the Autonomous Council (MAC) of Lumbajong. Following the ceremony, a community feast was held to celebrate the installation of the Rong Asar and to bring together all those who participated in the event.
The installation of Moniram Rongphar as the village headman signifies the preservation and continuation of Karbi traditions and the empowerment of local governance in Rongchingri, Theso Ajur. The community looks forward to the leadership and guidance of Rongphar in resolving issues and fostering the development of their village.
