Newly Elected Members Of NC Hills Take Oath

HAFLONG, Jan 19: In a momentous event, the district library auditorium in Haflong witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of the 28 Members of the Autonomous Council (MAC) of the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC).

The oath of office was administered at a brief but culturally rich function, echoing the diverse linguistic and cultural tapestry of the region.

The distinguished Members took their oaths in English, Hindi, Dimasa, and other local languages, underlining the cultural plurality of the North Cachar Hills.

District Commissioner (DC) Simanta Kumar Das, in accordance with state government directives, presided over the first meeting for the oath or affirmation, setting the stage for the subsequent election of the chairman of NCHAC.

The auspicious event commenced with the harmonious rendition of Jatiya sangeet, resonating the unity and diversity of the community. Elected members graced the ceremony in their traditional attire, accompanied by their families.

Notably, Debolal Gorlosa, chief executive member (CEM) of NCHAC, donned the Dimasa traditional risha, adding a touch of cultural significance to the occasion.

As the swearing-in unfolded, the notice for the election of the chairman was officially issued today. The last date for the submission of nominations to the secretary of the Legislature at NCHAC is set until 12 noon on January 20, 2024.

The highly anticipated election for the chairman’s post is scheduled to take place on January 21, 2024, signifying the next crucial step in shaping the leadership of NCHAC.

The ceremony not only marked a formal beginning for the newly elected MAC members but also laid the foundation for the democratic governance and representation that will unfold under the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council.
