GUWAHATI, March 25: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is advancing steadily in its electrification efforts, supporting Indian Railway ambitious vision of achieving 100% electrification and net-zero carbon emissions. A major milestone has been reached with the successful electrification of the Alipurduar Division (APDJ), while electrification efforts in the Tinsukia Division (TSK) continue at a steady pace.
In APDJ, the electrification of the Fakiragram–Golakganj section, spanning 46 Route Kilometres (RKM) / 50.536 Track Kilometres (TKM), marks the final step toward full division electrification, ensuring greater efficiency and sustainability. Similarly, the electrification of the New Coochbehar –Dinhata – Bamanhat sections, covering 49.81 RKM / 55.71 TKM, further reinforces the progress of railway electrification in NFR. This achievement features major upgrades including SCADA implementation, Trip Unit Rating supply at stations and successful electric loco trials. Notably, the electric loco trial commenced at 19:16 hours, with the loco arriving at Fakiragram (FKM) at 20:11 hours, demonstrating the successful implementation of electrification. With this milestone, the division is fully ready for seamless electric train operations, enabling faster travel, lower emissions, and cost-effective railways.
Simultaneously, electrification work in the Mariani – Jorhat Town section of the Tinsukia Division is progressing steadily. Covering 18.215 RKM/22.725 TKM, key infrastructure developments, including substations, auxiliary transformers and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition installations are actively underway. Additionally, the electrification of level crossings and over-line structures has been completed.
