GUWAHATI, July 16: NF Railway (NFR) has implemented several measures aimed at ensuring comfortable and hygienic train journeys for passengers. Key initiatives include the introduction of on-board housekeeping services (OBHS) on most trains originating within its jurisdiction. OBHS ensures that coaches are cleaned twice daily, during the journey and as per passengers’ requests. Currently, OBHS is available on 63 pairs of trains, contributing significantly to improved cleanliness and reduced passenger complaints.

Innovative technology supports OBHS operations, where real-time information from running trains triggers automatic SMS alerts to OBHS supervisors, control offices, and passengers. This system enables prompt resolution of passenger complaints regarding cleanliness, ensuring enhanced hygiene standards in train coaches and toilets.

Additionally, NFR has implemented the Clean Train Station (CTS) scheme, under which long-distance trains undergo specialised cleaning using mechanised processes at designated stations during scheduled halts. Professional agencies employ high-pressure jet machines and eco-friendly cleaning agents to maintain cleanliness in train interiors, focusing on areas like toilets, doorways, and aisles. Waste generated during journeys is regularly collected at nominated stations such as Lumding, Guwahati, Alipurduar, New Jalpaiguri, and Katihar, further contributing to a clean environment on trains.

NFR emphasises the importance of passenger cooperation in maintaining cleanliness onboard. Passengers are encouraged to use designated dustbins instead of littering, contributing to a more pleasant travel experience for everyone.
