GUWAHATI, Jan 11: The construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) remains a continuous and vital initiative across all zones of Indian Railways, aiming to eliminate manned level crossing gates and enhance safety for both train operations and road users.
Between 2014 and 2023, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully completed the construction of 219 ROBs and 640 RUBs in various states under its jurisdiction. This substantial effort significantly improved the safety of train movements.
In the ongoing financial year, 10 ROBs were constructed, with five replacing existing level crossing gates and another five at new project sites. Assam saw the construction of six ROBs, Nagaland with two, and one each in West Bengal and Bihar.
Simultaneously, 36 RUBs were constructed at new ongoing project sites, with 33 in Bihar as part of the Araria–Galgalia New Line Project, two in Nagaland for the Dimapur–Kohima New Line Project, and one in Assam for the Lumding–Barlangfer section.
Aligned with the Ministry of Railways’ policies, the elimination of all manned level crossing gates is a key focus, aiming to enhance safety, mobility, and expedite road crossing projects. The construction of ROBs and RUBs plays a crucial role in reducing fatal accidents involving rail and road interactions.
