GUWAHATI, Aug 5: In a bid to promote preventive healthcare and strengthen medical services across its jurisdiction, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has rolled out a series of health awareness initiatives at its network of hospitals.

These efforts, anchored by the Central Hospital in Maligaon, reflect NFR’s continued commitment to the well-being of its employees, their families, and the broader community it serves.

As part of its comprehensive approach to healthcare, NFR has made substantial investments in upgrading its medical infrastructure.

Its hospitals are now equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, modern Operation Theatres (OTs), and Intensive Care Units (ICUs), which have significantly improved patient care by enabling faster and more accurate diagnoses and better treatment outcomes.

Last week, Central Hospital Maligaon led the way with a series of public health campaigns centred around Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) Day, Basic Life Support (BLS) training, and the launch of World Breastfeeding Week.

These programmes were designed not only to spread awareness about critical health issues but also to build capacity among healthcare professionals and educate the public on simple, life-saving practices.

ORS Day was observed with the theme “Simple solution for a healthier future – sip smart, stay strong, say Yes to ORS.”

The event aimed to raise awareness about the use of ORS in preventing dehydration, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.

Nursing students participated actively, staging a street play that vividly illustrated the importance of ORS and how it can be a low-cost, effective intervention during diarrhoeal illnesses and heat-related health issues.

Complementing this, a Basic Life Support (BLS) training session was held in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Paediatrics and CPR eSanjeevani.

During the session, 20 nurses received hands-on training in essential life-saving procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The training aimed at strengthening the hospital’s emergency response capabilities and ensuring that frontline healthcare providers are equipped with the skills necessary to act swiftly during critical situations.

Simultaneously, the hospital marked the start of World Breastfeeding Week under the global theme “Invest in Breastfeeding, invest in the future.”

Through a series of awareness talks and educational sessions, the campaign focused on promoting the numerous benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers.

Speakers at the event emphasized the need for community support and workplace-friendly policies that enable mothers to breastfeed successfully.

These initiatives together underscore NFR’s broader vision of a proactive healthcare system—one that prioritises preventive care, fosters professional development, and encourages community engagement.

By championing such programmes, Central Hospital Maligaon continues to be a key driver of national health priorities while also setting high standards in healthcare delivery within the railway zone.

Through its ongoing public health advocacy and infrastructure enhancements, the Northeast Frontier Railway is not only addressing immediate health needs but also contributing to the long-term resilience and well-being of communities across the Northeast.
