GUWAHATI, Jan 9: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken another step towards improving safety and operational efficiency with the installation of an IP-based Video Surveillance System (VSS) on the Tower Wagon at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Depot under the Katihar Division.
The system uses advanced IP cameras to transmit high-quality video through wired and wireless networks, enabling centralized, real-time and round-the-clock monitoring of tower wagon activities, particularly during maintenance and overhead equipment (OHE) works.
The surveillance system will help identify potential hazards, ensure adherence to safety protocols and allow the use of recorded footage for post-event analysis, training and continuous improvement. Its scalable and easy-to-maintain technology is expected to strengthen supervision, safeguard assets and improve workforce management. The initiative reflects NFR’s commitment to technological upgradation, enhanced safety standards and more efficient and reliable railway operations across the region.
