GUWAHATI, Aug 13: In remembrance of the painful history of the partition of India, the government of India has declared August 14 as the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. This significant day serves as a reminder to current and future generations of the immense suffering endured by the people of India during the partition. The partition of India marked an unprecedented displacement of people and forced migrations, abruptly ending coexistence and traditional ways of life. As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the people of India pay tribute to those who not only lost their ancestral homes but also their lives during this tragic period.
NF Railway, in alignment with the nation, will observe the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. Selected prominent railway stations across the five divisions under the jurisdiction of NF Railway will be part of this commemoration, covering various major districts. Exhibition stalls and hoardings depicting photographs that depict the pain and agony endured by Indians during the partition of India in 1947 will be set up for public viewing. The stations will host various programs on this day, featuring the tragic stories of partition with the participation of freedom fighters and their families.
Among the stations where exhibitions are organised include Katihar, Maldah Court, Samsi, Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri Jn, Alipurduar Jn, New Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, Falakata, New Mal Jn, Kokrajhar, Rangiya Jn, Barpeta Road, New Bongaigaon Jn, Goalpara, Rangapara North, North Lakhimpur, Naharlagun, Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Agartala, Dimapur, Furketing, Golaghat, Jorhat Town, Mariani Jn, Bhojo, Moranhat, Simaluguri Jn, Sibsagar Town, Duliajan, Dibrugarh, Margherita, Ledo, Tinsukia Jn, and New Tinsukia.
Additionally, an exhibition will be held at the Tindharia workshop of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
