Notably, August 14 has been declared by the government of India as ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ to remind the present and future generations of India about the pain and suffering faced by people during the nation’s partition. The partition of India represents an unprecedented displacement of people and forced migration. It also marks the end of long-standing ways of life and coexistence, forcing millions to seek new homes in unfamiliar and hostile environments. This day brings to light the agony and suffering of millions whose lives were forever altered by the partition. On this day, the people of India salute those who sacrificed not only their ancestral homes but also their lives during the partition.

The pain of partition can never be forgotten. Millions of Indians were displaced, and many lost their lives due to senseless hatred and violence. Observing this day serves to remind everyone, especially young school children who attended the exhibitions, of the need to remove social divisions and disharmony, thus strengthening the spirit of oneness.
