GUWAHATI, March 15: The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has sanctioned 100 MBBS seats in the Nalbari Medical College.
Sarma referred to it as a historic accomplishment for the northeastern state of Assam with four new medical colleges being established in a year.
Taking to his Twitter handle, he expressed his delight by saying that Assam has reached another milestone. The Chief Minister further stated that “The Letter of Intent” issued by the NMC to Nagaon Medical College for 100 MBBS seats will amplify the efforts of the Assam government to improve the healthcare system.

Earlier, the NMC had approved 100 MBBS seats in Nagaon Medical College. The medical college turned out to be the 11th in Assam and second in 2023 after Kokrajhar Medical College to be sanctioned by the NMC. On that note, the total number of MBBS seats in Assam has increased to 1,400.
