NMFS’s Indian Jujube Plantation Boon For Unemployed

DIPHU, April 8: Under Nokbe Multipurpose Farming Society (NMFS) an ambitious plantation of apple ber also called Indian jujube has been set up in 150 bighas of land in Disama No 2 area in Karbi Anglong district. In local markets the price of Indian Jujube is between Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kg.

As told by the office secretary of the society and former leader of KSA, Laichan Engleng said the massive plantation of Indian Jujube fruits has been taken up so that several unemployed can be engaged to give employment to them.

Engleng said, “It is a dream project of chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang with the purpose to solve the unemployment problems to some extent for the youths of the district.”

Engleng said there is a lot of unused land and with the support of the CEM more than 150 bighas of land has Indian Jujube plantation by the society. Every day at least 40 to 50 cultivators are engaged as unskilled labour in the plantation.

“If this first attempt is successful then will cultivate in other places. This will give encouragement for others to start”, Engleng said.

The chairman of the society is CEM, Tuliram Ronghang; the working president is executive member (EM), Amarsing Tisso.
