JORHAT, Sept 26: The employees of Asam Sahitya Sabha on Monday staged a protest in the premises of Chandrakanta Handique Bhawan, the central office of the Sabha here, against non-payment of salaries for the past seven months.

Holding placards they staged the protest demanding their salaries before Durga puja which commences from October 1.
They stated that altogether 42 employees in eight offices out of 10 offices of the premier literary body of Assam had not received their salaries.
Two offices at present do not have any employees.
The employees said that despite repeated pleas to the Sabha top office bearers, no positive response was seen, following which they had to stage a protest.
Narrating the hardships faced by them in running their families, the employees said that they will resort to indefinite non-cooperation of work if their salaries were not paid.
It may be mentioned that salaries in government scale are paid to the employees of Asam Sahitya Sabha from yearly government grants given to the body under the non-plan head.
In January this year, the employees had undertaken a non-cooperation programme to protest against non- payment of salaries for several months at that point of time and other demands.
The employees have a Union under the banner of Asam Sahitya Sabha Kalyan Samiti.
