North East Debating Competition at North Lakhimpur College

GUWAHATI, Oct 11: The debating and symposium section of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) is organising the 34th Golap Sharma Memorial North East Inter College/University Debating Competition on October 13, 2022. The competition is in its 34th year and bears the history of producing veteran debaters of the state and the region.

Like every year, the organisers expect participants from different educational institutes. The topic for the 34th edition of this honorary debating competition is, ‘Privatisation of Public Sector is the only means to expedite the economic development of India’. The debaters can speak in either English or Assamese maintaining proper parliamentary procedures.

Professor Akhil Ranjan Dutta has been invited to grace the house of the debate as the speaker. Priya Baruah, the secretary of the debating and symposium section of the college said, “So far, we have received confirmations from a good number of debaters from the region. We expect more participants to come and make the event a successful one. Apart from the participants, we welcome different stakeholders of the society to be a part of this prestigious debating competition.”
The competition is going to start at 10:15 am and the debaters will be contesting for six different prizes. The team prizes include ‘best and second-best team’ and in the individual section, there are four individual prizes- first, second and third best debater followed by a ‘Jury Choice Award’. Winners will receive a total cash prize of Rs 35,000 along with the running shields and memorial trophies in the event.
