Noted artist Kanika Das passes away in old age home at Jorhat

JORHAT, June 7: 
Kanika Das, an eminent violinist and a singer passed away at Amaravati Old Age Home on the outskirts here on Tuesday last due to old age ailments.

The octogenarian artiste who was the widow of well-known tablist Promod Das, leaves behind two daughters, one of whom reside abroad and the other outside the state.

Kanika, who had performed with Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika as a singer and also as a musician, had performed in a large number of functions in the past decades and also  taught music to many students.

Originally a resident of Jail Road area here, the artiste since March 2021 was staying at the old age home after her daughters brought her for receiving proper care as she was staying alone following her husband’s demise.

Kanika’s daughters had kept coming to the old age home to meet their mother in the past two years, and most recently one of them came in April this year and enquired about the health condition of their mother.
