Notorious drug peddlers in Margherita police net

MARGHERITA, Feb 28: The Margherita Police on Friday were able to apprehend three drug peddlers and seized a total of 16.96 grams of drugs and heroin in a joint operation conducted in the Hillview and Bargolai, Bashbari area of Margherita.

The raid against drugs was led by Margherita police station officer-in-charge Protap Gogoi, who launched a crackdown on the drug peddlers, resulting in the arrest of Jiten Gwala from Hillview, Margherita, while Sofikul Ali and Naziruddin Ali from Bargolai, Bashbari.

The apprehended drugs peddler Jiten Gwala is a resident of Ulup while Sofikul Ali and Naziruddin Ali is a resident of Maulang, Ledo under Margherita police station. 

Margherita police seized from Jiten Gogoi a total of 8.11 grams of drugs and from Sofikul Ali and Naziruddin Ali a total of 8.85 grams of suspected heroine were seized, with a total weight of 16.96 banned contrabands were seized from the three notorious apprehended drugs peddlers.

The local residents of these areas have expressed satisfaction with the police operation, which is seen as a significant step towards curbing the menace of drug trafficking in the area.

Margherita police station officer-in-charge Protap Gogoi said, “Based on a tip off we have been able to apprehend three notorious drugs peddlers along with the banned contraband from Hillview and Bargolai, Bashbari. Our anti-drugs operation shall continue and we are committed to make Margherita a drugs free region.”  The arrested individuals will be produced in Margherita sub divisional magistrate court, and further investigation is underway to uncover a larger network of drug peddlers operating in the region for many years.
