KOKRAJHAR, Feb 27: A total of 29 cases of human disability have been diagnosed during the daylong disability camp organised by NTPC at its hospital at NTPC Bongaigaon recently. These include tricycle – 9 patients, wheelchair -7 patients and smart cane (blind) – 13 patients.
NTPC Bongaigaon has conducted such a camp for the first time in association with the Kolkata-based National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities, an autonomous body under the Deptt. Of Empowerment of Persons with disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Govt. of India. The programme was inaugurated by Subrata Mandal, ED, NTPC Bongaigaon in the presence of DP Patra, GM (Operations), Arunashis Das, GM (Projects), Dr. Ela Chakrabarty, CMO, VCDC chairpersons from Salakati and Aye Bhandarini, in presence of HODs of Deptt., representatives of union and associations.
The second phase of the camp will be held in the next two months in which appliances for overcoming their physical challenges, etc., will be distributed among the disabled persons. At company level, the initiative is taken up under the aegis of NTPC Foundation, NILD Kolkata formerly known as NIOH Disability Rehabilitation Centre (NFNDRC) with an aim to bring in significant changes in the lives of persons with disability residing in the vicinity of NTPC projects.
A total of 74 patients registered where 29 patients were selected during the screening. 20 more patients in the list have been in the process of submission of required documents.
