NTPC signs three MoA with BTR Govt

NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives worth Rs 1.10 crore

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 15: In a landmark initiative to promote community development in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), three Memoranda of Agreement (MoA) were exchanged between the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and NTPC Limited under NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives for a total of Rs 1.10 crore.

The MoAs were exchanged between Pramod Boro, chief of Bodoland Territorial Region, and Debabrata Kar, general manager (O&M), NTPC, in the presence of senior officials from BTC and NTPC. The ceremony was attended by Akash Deep, IAS, principal secretary, BTC; Masanda M Pertin, IAS, deputy commissioner, Kokrajhar; Onkar Nath, additional general manager (HR), NTPC and other distinguished guests.

Pramod Boro, chief of Bodoland Territorial Region, lauded NTPC for its continuous support towards the development of BTR, stating that NTPC has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the region’s growth through meaningful projects under its CSR policy. Boro said, “NTPC’s initiatives are not just projects but pathways to progress, touching lives across education, livelihoods, and healthcare. Their dedication to holistic community development is truly commendable, and we deeply value this partnership that is transforming dreams into reality for our people.”

The three projects covered under the MoAs aimed to address key areas of education, livelihood, and healthcare. The Bodoland Youth Employment Mission through Space Education Lab, implemented by the department of education, BTC, with a financial commitment of Rs 60 lakh from NTPC, sought to inspire scientific curiosity and innovation among students. The year-long initiative would offer hands-on learning experiences and foster future career opportunities in space sciences.

The promotion of Eri Silk and Handloom Village in Raimona National Park, in collaboration with the directorate of sericulture, BTC, and supported by Rs 30 lakh from NTPC, aimed to preserve traditional weaving crafts and promote sustainable livelihoods. This project would empower local artisans, particularly women, by providing skill development opportunities and enhancing their access to markets, thereby contributing to socio-economic upliftment.

Addressing healthcare accessibility in remote riverine areas, the Boat Ambulance Service at Khutabagra, to be implemented by the directorate of health services, BTC, will be supported with Rs20 lakh from NTPC. This initiative would provide timely medical assistance to communities living in difficult-to-reach areas, ensuring life-saving healthcare services are just a call away.

Debabrata Kar, general manager (O&M), NTPC, emphasised NTPC’s unwavering commitment to inclusive growth and community well-being. He said that NTPC’s CSR philosophy of ‘People Before Power’ is reflected in these projects, which aimed to empower communities and improve lives in the BTR region. The ceremony concluded with the official exchange of the signed MoAs, symbolising the shared vision of BTC and NTPC for sustainable development in the Bodoland Territorial Region. The event marked another step forward in their joint efforts to promote progress and prosperity for the people of BTR.
