HOJAI, Aug 21: Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Information Technology, Science and Technology, Government of Assam Keshab Mahanta on Saturday, ceremonially launched rehabilitation grant fund through DBT (Direct Bank Transfer) for the flood affected people of Hojai district at Kachari field at district headquarter Sankardev Nagar in Hojai. It is pertinent to mention that, compensation process has already begun and around Rs 12,13,73,100 will be directly transferred in the accounts of beneficiaries. On the other hand, minister Mahanta also launched the Orunodoi scheme and Orunodoi month. He asked the officials to ensure that no beneficiary is deprived from the benefits of the scheme. Notably, a month-long assessment of the beneficiaries in this regard was conducted by voluntary organisations like NCC& NSS from Saturday onwards. On this occasion, local MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh, Lumding MLA Shibu Mishra, DC Anupam Choudhury, Ramabala Devi, president, Hojai Zilla Parishad, Anup Deb, president, Hojai District BJP and the beneficiaries were present amongst others.
Our Sivasagar Correspondent adds: Umananda Doley, commissioner & secretary to the Government of Assam, inaugurated the Orunodoi month from August 20 to September 20 in a meeting held in Sivasagar Girls’ College and distributed cheques to the flood-affected people for repairing their damaged houses. The beneficiaries will receive Rs 95,100 through DTB mode. The meeting was attended by Sivasagar DC Meghanidhi Dahal, DDC Subhan Gowala, ADC Karmadev Brahma, and revenue officials of Demow, Sivasagar, and Amguri.
Our Kokrajhar Correspondent adds: In line with the ceremonial launch of rehabilitation grants to flood-affected families through DBT by the chief minister of Assam, the Kokrajhar district administration also handed over cheques to beneficiaries of the district at a ceremonial function held at the auditorium of Kokrajhar Science College on Saturday.
On the occasion, Binita Pegu, secretary to the Government of Assam distributed 5 cheques of Rs 95,100 each to the families with fully damaged houses in presence of MLA of Kokrajhar East LAC Lawrence Islary, Kokrajhar deputy commissioner Varnali Deka and other officials of the district administration.
Delivering the introductory speech, Kokrajhar deputy commissioner Varnali Deka said that it is a very auspicious day because the financial assistance through rehabilitation grants to the families whose houses have been damaged due to the floods were released through DBT. She informed that this time around 1,00,101 people were affected by the floods in Kokrajhar district and more than 20,696 people had to stay in relief camps. The grants are being given after verification of the damaged houses.
Speaking at the function, MLA Lawrence Islary said the flood victims as well as the economically weaker sections of the society would benefit tremendously with the launch of rehabilitation grant and Orunodoi month in the district.
During the last flood a total of 60 houses were damaged, out of these 10 houses were fully damaged, 47 were partially damaged and 3 huts were
damaged. In this connection, a total of 10 families of fully damaged houses would receive a sum of Rs 95,100 per family, total 47 families of partially damaged houses would receive a sum of Rs 3,200 per family and 3 families would receive a sum of Rs 4,100 for damage of their huts in the district.
In addition to that, secretary to the Government of Assam, Binita Pegu also ceremonially flagged off the Orunodoi month in the district in order to gauge the level of implementation and impact of the Orunodoi scheme at the ground level. She asked the supervisors and verification team members to conduct door-to-door verification drives properly to ensure that its benefits are available to the economically weaker sections of the society, especially the poor women.
During this Orunodoi month, a field survey of Orunodoi beneficiaries would be carried out. The door-to-door survey would entail a process of verification which would be followed by exclusion of ineligible and non-genuine beneficiaries from the Orunodoi beneficiary database.
In Kokrajhar district, total 43246 beneficiaries covering 118 VCDC and 22 ULBS have been covered under Orunodoi Scheme. For re-verification during the Orunodoi month, there would be 257 verification teams formed with a total 514 graduate students from 7 colleges of the district. They would conduct house-to-house visits of all existing beneficiaries along with 140 supervisors who have been engaged from the P & RD department. Engaged verification team members and supervisors have already been trained through designated master
trainers. At present, 7 beneficiaries have submitted for voluntary opt-out
through online application mode.
The meeting ended with the vote of thanks by the additional deputy commissioner.

Our Jorhat Correspondent adds: Along with the rest of the state, director of the Agriculture department of Assam Government, Anant Lal Gyani launched Orunodoi month on Saturday.
Lal launched the drive in a ceremony held at the Jorhat Theatre Hall here, which was attended by Jorhat deputy commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman, MLAs of Mariani and Titabar- Rupjyoti Kurmi and Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah, respectively, and other district administration officials.
It may be mentioned that during the drive student volunteers of NCC, NSS and others will visit households of Orunodoi scheme beneficiaries to carry out a survey to find out whether the beneficiaries covered by the scheme were eligible as per norms laid by the Government.
Earlier, additional deputy commissioner Kabita Kakoti Konwar delivered the welcome address in the programme.
Later, Gyani visited the office of the district agriculture officer, Jorhat and reviewed the status of various schemes under implementation by the department.
District agriculture officers of Jorhat, Majuli and Charaideo, along with other officials and employees attended the review meeting.
