Outgoing headmaster honoured with farewell ceremony

BISWANATH CHARIALI, June 11: A heartfelt farewell ceremony was organised by the No 2 Batiaroka Village Development Committee in collaboration with the school management committee of Batiaroka Govt JBS to honour Soiyad Saleh Ahmed, the outgoing headmaster of Batiaroka Govt JBS. The event took place on Sunday and saw the participation of various organisations and individuals from the surrounding area.

The program commenced with the planting of a sapling by the departing teacher in the school premises. This was followed by the inauguration of the entrance gate by Padma Hazarika, the MLA of Sootea, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address during the main session chaired by Bhabani Sarma, MLA Hazarika spoke about the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and urged parents and guardians to work together for the overall development of government schools.

Anjan Baskota, recipient of the Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Puraskar, was invited as a guest speaker and shared insights on the roles of parents, teachers, students, and the community in uplifting the educational scenario of any locality. He appealed to parents to actively monitor the teaching-learning process in schools and extend their support to improve the educational standards of government schools.

The gathering also heard from Sonit Kumar Bormudoi, headmaster, Purna Kumar Sarma, recipient of Sahitya Akademi’s Translation prize, Chakrapani Sarma, an artist, and Lila Kanta Sarma, a retired headmaster. Over twenty organisations and individuals from the Batiaroka area expressed their gratitude to Ahmed by presenting him with citations, traditional Assamese hats (japi), xorai, gamosas, packets of books, and saplings.

In his address, the outgoing teacher, Ahmed, fondly recollected the memories of his time at the school. The meeting was attended by Parbati Sarma, president of Dakhin Nagsankar GP, Chandan Upadhyaya, Punya Nirola, Premlal Dahal, Tarabir Bhujel, Ranju Bhujel, and other dignitaries. Loknath Upadhyaya, president of the No 2 Batiaroka Village Development Committee, explained the purpose of the event, while Samsul Haque, an assistant teacher of Jharnapani LPS, conducted the proceedings. Kedar Kafle, former GP president, delivered the vote of thanks. Several cultural and literary activities were performed by the students throughout the session.
