The flagship scheme, initiated by the state government under the direction of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, serves the dual purpose of combating global warming and promoting a tree-based economy across the state. The scheme was officially launched on June 8 earlier this year.

Reports indicate that the district-level coordination committee in Nagaon distributed over 6 lakh commercial tree seedlings, including species like agor, neem, white sandal, among others, to 2,80,971 residents across 13 development blocks and 2 part blocks within the district. Each resident received two seedlings to plant on their own land.

The newly appointed divisional forest officer (DFO) of Nagaon forest division, Suhas Kadam, stated that a total of 2,80,971 individuals from Nagaon district registered their names on the scheme’s portal, and each of them received two commercial tree seedlings. The scheme’s overarching goal is to plant one crore seedlings of commercial trees, with the aim of fostering a greener and more sustainable environment throughout the entire state, as emphasised by DFO Kadam.
