KOKRAJHAR, Feb 21: The state water resources minister Pijush Hazarika on Tuesday assured to sanction a road-cum-embankment at Gurang river.

He made this commitment after visiting the construction site of river embankment at Gaurang River near Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital in Kokrajhar.
Hazarika, who arrived here on Monday afternoon with a two-day programme, held a review meeting with senior officials of the water resources department of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and district administration officials.
During the inspection of the river embankment, Hazarika was accompanied by chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro, MLA Lawrence Islary at the Gaurang River site.
After inspection, Hazarika said that a road-cum-embankment in the area would be sanctioned for the benefit of the people. He said that the state government and BTR governments are jointly working towards the welfare and development of the citizens to make a healthy integration.
Hazarika also visited Chirang and laid the foundation stone of the FMBAP scheme under Chirang water resources division.
The scheme will be constructed at a cost of Rs 125.21 crore from the water resources department.
Notably, the scheme will ensure that several villages of Durgapur, Domgaon, Dababeel, Chotonilibari, Debargaon, Dangaigaon, Bhirengaon, Bherbheri, Rowmari, Khagrabari, Sanyashiguri, Uttarpopragaon & Popragaon under Chirang water resources division will be protected from erosion of River Aie.
Citizens of Chirang district have expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the minister and BTR government for initiating to construct a FMBAP scheme which will benefit the locals from the river erosion.
