NAGAON, April 19: Pioneer Arts College, a leading private higher educational institution in Nagaon town, celebrated Bohag Bihu, the traditional Assamese New Year festival, with great enthusiasm at the college premises on Saturday here.
The event was marked by a seminar on “Bihu culture, Bihu songs, and Globalization,” where Dr Achyut Kumar Saikia, a professor from Government Model College, Baksa, delivered a keynote address while Padum Prasad Saikia, noted Bihu expert and Bharat Bhushan award recipient was present as the chief guest. The entire programme was initiated as well as mentored by Uma Kanta Das, senior faculty from Assamese Department of the college.
While addressing the occasion, Dr Achyut Kr Saikia highlighted the significance of Bihu in Assamese culture, stating that despite the increasing influence of modern technology, Bihu has gained global popularity, which is a matter of pride for the people of Assam.
On the other hand, Padum Prasad Saikia, delivered a lecture on the topic and also entertained the students with traditional Bihu songs.
Over hundred students, including faculty members and staff, participated in the event, showcasing their cultural heritage through traditional dance performances, Bihu songs, and folk instruments. Students also displayed traditional Assamese attire and served local delicacies.
