MORIGAON, Nov 9: Minister of Water Resources, Information & Public Relations and Social Justice & Empowerment, Piyush Hazarika, inaugurated a newly constructed three-storied wedding hall and guest house, “Apsara Bibah Bhawan Aru Atithi Sala,” at Morigaon town on Sunday. The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 61.50 lakh under the Morigaon Zila Parishad fund.
Speaking at the inauguration, the minister highlighted the pace of development works undertaken in his constituency Jagiroad under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. He added that his efforts extend beyond Jagiroad to Morigaon and Laharighat constituencies. Citing examples, Hazarika mentioned the 7.5 km-long road and embankment project completed in 2023, which has been instrumental in protecting the areas of Jagiroad, Morigaon and Laharighat from floods.
The minister also announced that the Morigaon Zila Parishad would provide the wedding hall rent-free for brides from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families for up to five days each month to support their wedding ceremonies.
Earlier, Morigaon Zila Parishad Chairperson Pranati Kalita delivered the welcome address, followed by CEO Ananta Kr Gogoi, who spoke about the importance and necessity of the new facility. The programme was attended by MLA Ramakanta Deuri, BJP president Ramprasad Sarkar, former CEM of TAC Paban Manta, Vice Chairperson of MZP, ZPCs, AP members and officials of the Morigaon Zila Parishad.
