Police engage in gunfight with robbers in Morajhar

DOBOKA, Oct 29: A dramatic incident unfolded on Saturday night in Morajhar, Hojai district, as a confrontation erupted between the police and a gang of robbers. Additional Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Hojai, Pallab Tamuli, reported that a robber on a motorcycle was ordered to halt by the patrolling police.

The situation escalated into a gunfight between the police and the robbers. Sources from the police department confirmed the recovery of a pistol at the scene. The injured robber was swiftly admitted to Ham Hospital in Hojai for treatment.

Of note, the state chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, had visited Lanka in Hojai district on the same day as the incident. Coinciding with the chief minister’s visit, extensive patrolling and search operations were conducted by the police across various areas in the district.

The incident occurred on Lunglungia road in Kapahbari reserve, approximately a kilometer from Nilbagan-Lanka forelane. The police carried out the raid based on received intelligence. According to police sources, a group of miscreants, alleged to have procured weapons from Dimapur, have been involved in various criminal activities within Hojai district. There are believed to be more individuals associated with this gang of robbers.

The Hojai police are actively pursuing the remaining members of the gang, as confirmed by police sources.
