HAFLONG, Sept 12: Thousands of people led by different social organisations coming from diverse communities besides majority Dimasas followed by Hrangkhol, Khelma and other communities comprising tribal and non-tribal communities such as Nepali, Bengali, Asomiya, Manipuri and others participated in a protest rally opposing the proposed bifurcation of present Dima Hasao district, to organisers, on communal and religious lines by IPF along with ISF and IWF.
The rally began from Haflong Municipal Board the erstwhile Lal Field upto Council rotary and returned to Dima Hasao DC Office where it came to an end.
In parallel, such a protest rally against the same issue was reportedly concluded in a peaceful manner at Mahur, Harangajao, Umrangsu and Diyungbra within the district on Monday.
The protest rally was jointly organised by All Apex Bodies Coordination Committee (AABCC) representing 11 different tribes and non tribes: JNH; DSU, ADSU, DMA, DJH; DYF and DLM.
Simultaneously, all the frontal organisations submitted a memorandum to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through the deputy commissioner of Dima Hasao district, Haflong urging not to entertain the unconstitutional demand of IPF and their allied organisations for bifurcation of the Dima Hasao Autonomous District with separate Autonomous Council.
In the memorandum, members of the organisations, while expressing their gratitude for the good governance under the leadership of Sarma, requested the CM to take into account the sentiments of the peace loving people of the district while taking any decision on the proposed bifurcation of Dima Hasao Autonomous District with separate Autonomous Council.
The memorandum stated that it is aware of the unconstitutional demand of the IPF and its allied organisations for bifurcation of Dima Hasao Autonomous District and to that effect on various occasions the aforementioned organisations had already been invited and discussed by the state government.
It has also been learnt that the state government, considering the bifurcation to be unacceptable and unconstitutional, has previously not consented to their demand.
