MARGHERITA, March 14: Activists of Margherita Regional Student Union on Thursday hoisted a black flag at NH 315 Block Tiniali Margherita against the BJP-led government, which has notified the rules for implementation of Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Margherita Police interrupted the activists of Margherita Regional Student Union who had hoisted the black flag. Activists of Margherita Regional Student Union shouted various slogans.
Rupam Baruah, literary secretary of Tinsukia District Student Union, said that it is very unfortunate that the government, both at the Union and state levels, which promised to safeguard the ‘Jati, Mati, and Bheti’ of Assam and Assamese people, have failed in every sphere, which will completely ruin the art, culture, language, religion, and tradition of greater Assamese society. Rupam Baruah said that Assam and Assamese people shall never accept the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) at any cost. All Assam Student Union (AASU) and other indigenous organisations of Assam shall fight against the BJP-led government until CAA is canceled by hook or crook, said Rupam Baruah.

Our Sivasagar correspondent adds: The anti-CAA stir launched by the combined Opposition parties and some organisations in Sivasagar continued on Thursday in Doulmukh Chariali, despite a vigilant police force patrolling the town on all streets. Over a hundred activists of Raijor Dal led by Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi took part in the demonstration from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm and chanted slogans against the government. The agitators vowed their commitment to continue the fight against the Act and the government that has implemented it. The Sivasagar MLA read out a copy of the oath to the activists, and they all pledged to defeat the BJP in the upcoming elections in the state. The activists demanded protection of the land, people, and the culture of Assam.
Our Gossaigaon correspondent adds: A strong protest by the Trinamool Congress Committee workers under the aegis of the Kokrajhar district Committee was carried out at Padmabil in Gossaigaon expressing dissatisfaction and demanding the repeal of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill Act implemented by the central government.
Trinamool Congress workers in Gossaigaon burnt copies of the CAA amid massive protests in various parts of the state, starting from Lower Assam to Upper Assam, demanding the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Bill passed by the Central government in the Parliament.
The agitators of Trinamool Congress displayed placards at the district office in Padmabil and threatened that the law that the saffron party wants to impose the burden of foreigners on the greed of votes will not be tolerated.
Uttam Kumar Talukdar, district president of TMC, while burning the copies of CAA, promptly demanded the repeal of the CAA Bill Act-2019 and said that the bill, which was designed to forcibly impose the burden of foreigners in the interest of vote banks, will not be accepted. If the government does not repeal the CAA Bill Act-2019 at its earliest, then an intense democratic movement across the state will be carried out.
