GUWAHATI, Jan 28: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday took a swipe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, dubbing him the star campaigner for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
While speaking to reporters, Sarma criticised Gandhi, asserting that he lacks leadership qualities and is uninspiring, claiming that wherever Gandhi goes, it benefits the BJP.
“Wherever Rahul will pass from, Congress will be finished there. Whatever is left will also be finished. Because he is so uninspiring, so much arrogant. He has no leadership quality. Wherever he reaches, wherever he sets his foot, that place becomes great for us. He is the biggest star campaigner for BJP,” remarked CM Sarma.
Recently, tensions escalated between Sarma and Rahul Gandhi during the latter’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra through Assam.
During the Yatra, Gandhi, referring to Sarma as the most corrupt chief minister, faced a counterattack from Sarma, who vowed to file police cases against him after the Lok Sabha elections.
On January 22, Guwahati Police filed a case against Rahul Gandhi following a clash between police and Congress party workers attempting to pave the way for the Yatra to enter Guwahati.
Meanwhile, while reacting to political development in Bihar, where the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) dumped the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar and the opposition INDIA bloc, and staked claim to form a new government with the BJP, Sarma opined that the “dissolution” of the bloc was imminent as it had “no ideological basis”.
“The dissolution of the INDI Alliance is now certain. This alliance had no ideological basis,” he wrote on micro-blogging site X.
Sarma also maintained that the opposition alliance had “only one objective” of defeating Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Despite this negative politics, Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji has become a world leader today,” he added.
