Rahul Gandhi’s personal secretary appears before police in Jorhat

Personal secretary question regarding diversion of route during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

JORHAT, Feb 10: KB Byju, personal secretary (security), to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appeared before the investigating officer at the Jorhat Police Station on Saturday in connection with the case registered at the police station last month relating to alleged violation of the permitted route and causing disruptions in Jorhat town during Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on January 18.

Byju arrived at the police station at around 10.30 am and came out at around 2 pm. According to Jorhat OC Rahul Deori, he was questioned regarding the diversion of the route of the yatra. He said that Byju’s statement was taken and no date was given to him to come again, but would be summoned if needed.

It may be mentioned here that a case No. 20/2024) was registered at the Jorhat Police Station under sections 120(B),115 (II), 143, 147,188, 283, 323, 353, read with swection 3 of PDP Act after police lodged an FIR suo motu against KB Byju and several Congress leaders including APCC president, Bhupen Kumar Borah and working president Rana Goswami for deviating from the permitted route of the  yatra.

Police had served notices to Byju and others accused in the case to appear before the investigating officer of the case in January 31 for questioning. Bhupen Kumar Borah, had appeared before the investigating officer on January 3. However, Goswami and the others had requested for time citing health and other personal reasons, which reportedly was granted by the police.

Borah was directed to come to the police station again on February 12. The yatra while passing through the state had sparked a war of words between the Congress leader and MP from Wayanad and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with each trading charges against the other.
