GUWAHATI, March 15: Opposition Raijor Dal has announced its candidates for two more constituencies for the upcoming Assam assembly elections, taking the number of party nominees named so far to 13.

A statement issued by party president and MLA Akhil Gogoi on Saturday named Harikanta Das from Naoboicha and Babul Sonowal from Dhemaji.

Previously a member of the opposition alliance in the state, Raijor Dal will be contesting this election alone after its seat-sharing talks with the Congress failed.

The party had declared its first list of candidates for 11 constituencies on March 4.

Gogoi had won from the Sivasagar constituency as an Independent candidate in the last Assam assembly polls, representing the party as its lone MLA in the House. His name was not mentioned in either of the lists for this election.

In the current 126-member assembly, the ruling BJP’s strength is 64, while its allies AGP has nine MLAs, UPPL has seven and BPF has three members.
