Relief Materials Distributed By Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA)

DONGKAMUKAM, Oct 8: Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Chennai in collaboration with Caritas India on Saturday distributed relief materials to 136 families of Deramukh village, West Karbi Anglong. The village was among the worst flood-affected areas in the month of June as the Kopili River overflowed its banks.

The chairman of the southern region of YMCA and president of Madras YMCA, Dr Vincent George attended the programme as chief guest at Deramukh.

In his speech, he said, “The Association has branches in 136 countries all over the world. The organisation has been working in ‘Humanitarian Assistance’ to natural calamities to the most affected vulnerable population. We have supplied aid not only here in Assam but outside India too. Today, by seeing the condition of the people here I have decided and adopted the Deramukh village for our mission.”

The relief materials include 20 kg rice, 2 kg lentils, 1 kg soybeans, 5 kg flour, sugar 1 kg, etc.

The programme was attended by vice chairman North East India region YMCA, Dr Ahotto; member YMCA Madras, Gideon Thangaraj; member YMCA from Shillong, F Rymbui; national member YMCA, Joe RZ Thanga and others.
