The accused, identified as Prabhat Hazarika, allegedly broke into the house around 2 am and attacked Harendra Nath Bora and his wife, Dipti Bora with a sharp object resembling a stiff knife. Both sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. Dipti Bora is a retired employee of the education department.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Hazarika had been demanding Rs 50,000 from the couple, which they refused to pay, prompting the attack. Sources said the accused is in his mid-40s reportedly having three wives, had previously threatened the couple over money and is now absconding. Police are actively tracking him down.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. While financial motives appear likely, authorities are investigating all possible angles. The investigation is ongoing.
