SIVASAGAR, June 22: Municipality Safai workers from several districts of Upper Assam held a meeting in Sivasagar on Sunday to press for the fulfillment of their long-pending demands and called for a thorough inquiry into alleged irregularities in various Municipality Boards.
Speaking at the gathering, N. Basfor, a Safai workers’ leader from Sivasagar, said that the government has continued to overlook the legitimate concerns of the workers despite their consistent support for the ruling BJP during elections.
He alleged that government funds intended for Safai workers have been misappropriated by members of various municipal bodies.
The workers also demanded a meeting with chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to present their demands and bring to his attention the alleged corruption in municipal administrations.
Before the meeting, the Safai workers assembled at the historic Sivadoul temple and offered prayers to Lord Shiva, seeking divine blessings for the success of their campaign.
