KHERONI, Aug 18: The Department of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs under the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) organised a “Sajagata Sanmilan” at Langkhu Habe Town Hall, Malirngpi, Diphu, to raise awareness among Fair Price Shops (FPS), Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPS), Wholesale Consumer Cooperative Societies (WCCS), and stakeholders about the upcoming “Abhilakhi Asoni” scheme.
The initiative will facilitate the distribution of masur dal, sugar and salt at fair prices across Assam, beginning in 35 districts from October 2025 and expanding to all districts by November 2025.

The event was graced by Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member of KAAC, and Kaushik Rai, Minister of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Government of Assam, as chief guests.
Other dignitaries included guardian minister Nandita Garlosa, KAAC speaker Raju Tisso, MLAs Darsing Ronghang and Bidyasing Engleng, executive members, Members of Autonomous Council, additional chief secretary Biswaranjan Samal, IAS, district commissioner Nirola Phangchopi, ACS, along with departmental officials and representatives of LAMPS.
As outlined, under the “Abhilakhi Asoni” scheme, distribution of masur dal, sugar and salt will start in 10 districts, including Karbi Anglong, from October 1–10, 2025, and in the remaining 25 districts from November 1–10, 2025.
The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has initiated tenders for supplying these commodities to Karbi Anglong godowns from September 2025.
The Additional Chief Secretary informed that LAMPS will earn a margin of ₹1.80 to ₹2.00 per kilogram, with deposits to be made between the 12th and 16th of each month and profits transferred to LAMPS accounts by the 20th.
In his address, Ronghang stressed the importance of equitable distribution of essential commodities in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, while highlighting the scheme’s potential to strengthen LAMPS, which had earlier faced disruptions due to terrorist activities.
Minister Kaushik Rai urged LAMPS representatives to display banners at distribution centres and use standardised weighing equipment to ensure transparency.
He reiterated the Assam Government’s commitment to strengthening the Public Distribution System and improving consumer welfare.
The minister also mentioned that a preparatory meeting was held on August 17 in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong with the departments of Metrology (Weights & Measures), Mines and Minerals, and Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs to finalise key decisions for the programme. The “Abhilakhi Asoni” scheme will be formally launched by the chief minister from Guwahati.
