KOKRAJHAR, June 13: The two-day golden jubilee celebrations of Salakati Higher Secondary School commenced on Saturday with a grand cultural procession showcasing the rich traditions and cultural diversity of the region.
The celebration was formally inaugurated by BTC Executive Member for Sericulture and Soil Conservation, Karmeswar Ray, who flagged off the procession in the presence of students, teachers, alumni and local residents.
Established in 1976, Salakati Higher Secondary School, located near Kokrajhar town, has played a significant role in promoting education in the region over the past five decades.
The colourful procession featured more than a thousand students representing the cultural traditions of various communities, including Bodo, Assamese, Koch-Rajbongshi, Adivasi and Bengali groups.
The vibrant display drew large crowds and was widely appreciated by local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Ray lauded the institution for creating a healthy academic environment and producing numerous educated individuals who have contributed to society.
He expressed confidence that the school would continue to scale greater heights in the years ahead.
The first day’s programme also includes art and quiz competitions, solo and group dance contests, and the ceremonial lighting of 50 lamps in the evening to commemorate the institution’s 50-year journey.
The second day of the celebrations will feature an alumni meet, prize distribution ceremony, felicitation of members of the school’s first HSLC batch and a public meeting.
The public meeting will be chaired by BTC Executive Member for Health and Family Welfare and President of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, Derhasat Basumatary.
BTC Executive Member for Education Rabiram Narzary will attend as the chief guest, while Kokrajhar University Vice-Chancellor Ganesh Chandra Wary will deliver the keynote address.
BTC Director of Education Jagadish Prasad Brahma and NTPC Bongaigaon General Manager Arnav Maitra will attend as guests of honour.
A commemorative souvenir marking the golden jubilee will be unveiled by Kokrajhar MLA Sewli Mohilary.
The two-day celebration will conclude on Saturday evening with a fashion show and cultural programme.
