Speaking at the event, Sonowal highlighted the role of sports in shaping youth, promoting unity, discipline and determination. He said, “The Sansad Khel Mahotsav is not just a competition, but a celebration of talent and teamwork. It will help identify young sporting talents from grassroots levels who can represent India at national and international platforms, including the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.”

Organised under the patronage of MP Sarbananda Sonowal in collaboration with the Dibrugarh District Sports Association, the Mahotsav aims to nurture young athletes and promote a sports culture in line with the government’s vision of youth empowerment, unity and healthy living.

The three-level competition will be held across 11 venues in the six constituencies of Dibrugarh, covering village, block/ward, and parliamentary constituency levels. Sports featured include football, cricket, volleyball, athletics and indigenous games such as khoko, kabaddi, pithu, and tug of war.

The event is set to become one of Upper Assam’s largest community sports initiatives, providing a vibrant platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and sportsmanship.
