Guwahati, Nov 03:Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Monday inaugurated the North Eastern Science and Technology (NEST) Cluster at IIT Guwahati and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 635 crore across Assam.
The new projects include construction of 65 secondary school buildings at Rs 455 crore, upgradation of the Chayagaon–Ukium road at Rs 102.69 crore, and an RCC bridge at Silonijan–Dhansiri Par Ghat costing Rs 20.59 crore. Industrial estates will also be developed at Ramphalbil in Kokrajhar (Rs 14.40 crore) and Lakhibazar in Baksa (Rs 18.40 crore).
Built with an investment of Rs 22.98 crore, the NEST Cluster aims to drive innovation through four verticals- grassroots innovation, semiconductors and AI, bamboo-based technologies, and biodegradable plastics.
Scindia said Assam is emerging as a hub of innovation and connectivity, citing key projects such as the Bogibeel Bridge and Sela Tunnel. He noted that over Rs 6.2 lakh crore has been invested in the Northeast under the Gross Budgetary Support policy, turning the region from “landlocked to land-linked.”
During his visit, Scindia interacted with IIT researchers working on 6G communication, bamboo tissue culture, and biodegradable polymers.
