Section 144 promulgated in Hojai

HOJAI, May 2: The district magistrate of Hojai has by an order imposed Section 144 for vehicular movement in Hojai district.

As per the prohibitory order issued on Thursday, by the office of the district magistrate, it has been observed that multiple accidents have taken place in Hojai due to heavy movement of dumpers, trippers and heavy vehicles leading to increased number of casualties day by day. Accidents have also taken place within the municipal areas due to rough driving on the narrow roads. There are also possibilities of increase in the number of accidents due to heavy vehicular congestion in municipal board areas.

Movement of dumpers and trippers have been restricted on national highways and other roads including municipal areas from 6 am to 10 pm until further order. The speed limits of all types of HMV/MMV vehicles have been restricted to 60 Kmph on the national highway and 40 Kmph on all other roads. All types of vehicles are prohibited from modifying original structure or using any types of metals to increase weight capacity.

The order also prohibited the performing all types of stunts performed on national highways. Drunken driving, driving on the wrong side, over-speeding or any other violation of road safety measures have been also prohibited. There is also a complete ban on riding two-wheelers and pillion riding without helmet. The sale of fuel to any rider or pillion rider on two-wheeler without wearing helmet has also been prohibited.

The order also stated that owing to the necessity of the situation, this order is passed ex-parte under Section 144. However, anyone aggrieved by the order may approach the competent authority for modification or waiver of the order. This order comes into force with immediate effect. Any violation of this prohibitory order will be punishable under U/S 188 IPC.
