SIVASAGAR, Oct 19: The Education Department at Gargaon College organized a seminar on ‘Education: Values, Tradition, and Religious Beliefs’ at the historic Ramkha pith (temple) in Dikhowmukh, located 30 km from Sivasagar. The seminar aimed to delve into the cultural and historical significance of this thousand-year-old place of Sakta worship on the banks of the Dikhow River.
The seminar was conducted by a team of students led by Dr Bidyananda Borkakoti, the Head of the Education Department, along with two other professors. This initiative involved fieldwork, allowing participants to explore the rich historical elements of the site.
Ramkha pith has served as a center of worship for various tribal communities, including the Chutias, Mising, Deori, and Kachari, long before the arrival of Saulung Sukapha in the 13th century.
The seminar, held within the temple premises, featured discussions on the importance of values and traditions in contemporary education. Writer and journalist Manoj Kumar Borthakur emphasized that the modern education system should aim to instill a sense of patriotism and social responsibility in students.
Notable educationists Ananta Dutta, Bikash Bora, Mouchumi Dutta Duwora, Jitu Dutta, and P. Baruah also addressed the seminar. They stressed the need to reevaluate the past from a scientific perspective and assess our social history critically.
The seminar at Ramkha pith provided a platform for scholars, educators, and students to explore the rich cultural heritage of the region and its significance in today’s educational landscape.
