MANGALDAI, Oct 18: Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya (PDDUAM), Dalgaon, in Darrang district, successfully organised a two-day National Seminar on October 16–17, 2025, focusing on the theme “Integrating Indigenous Knowledge Systems for Sustainable Development: Tradition, Innovation, and Policy Making.”
Sponsored by ICSSR-NERC and supported by the RAHi Foundation, the seminar brought together scholars, policymakers, and academicians to explore the connection between traditional wisdom and modern development.

The inaugural session featured Prof Dinesh Baishya as the Chief Guest, who emphasised the importance of indigenous knowledge in shaping effective policy frameworks. Key lectures were delivered by Dr Shyama Prasad Biswas, retired professor from Dibrugarh University, Prof Hirendra Nath Sharma of Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh and Ashok Barman, IAS (Retd), all of whom provided valuable insights on the contemporary relevance of traditional practices.
Technical sessions chaired by Dr Budhin Hazarika, former Principal of Kharupetia College, included in-depth discussions. Notable attendees included Dr Sachindra Saharia, president of the Governing Body and Sangeeta Mazumdar of the RAHi Foundation.
The second day of the seminar was conducted virtually, with over 100 research papers presented by scholars from across India, offering diverse perspectives on sustainable development.
Convened by Dr Kumar Chandan Jyoti, Assistant Professor of Political Science, with Dr Sufian Ahmed Tapadar and Jinti Kalita as co-conveners, the seminar was held under the patronage of Principal Dr Lakhi Prasad Hazarika. A key moment was the release of an ISBN-numbered abstract volume featuring the academic contributions from the event.
The seminar highlighted PDDUAM’s active role in fostering dialogue around sustainability and the integration of indigenous knowledge in academic and policy domains.
