Seventh Annual Children’s Bhaona Festival at Rongdoi, Jorhat

Jorhat, Jan 21: With the aim of presenting in its true form the Bhaona culture — the immortal creation of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva — among children, the Rangdoi D Gaon Yuvak Brinda of Jorhat has been organizing the Children’s Bhaona Festival every year. Accordingly, with the cooperation of the Rangdoi D Gaon Yuvak Brinda and the villagers, the 7th Annual All Assam Children’s Bhaona Festival began on January 18.

The festival, which started today at the Rangdoi D Gaon Bor Namghar premises (Loboram Saikia Public Playground), is being held in a deeply spiritual atmosphere. On the first day of the festival, the opening play “Rukmini Haran” Bhaona was performed by the Jadumoni Cultural Group of Chenijaan.


It is noteworthy that this All Assam Children’s Bhaona Festival was organized for the first time in Assam in 2015 under the initiative of the Rangdoi D Gaon Yuvak Brinda with the support of the local residents. This year, the festival has reached its seventh edition. A total of 12 children’s Bhaona groups from different parts of Assam are participating in the event.
On January 19, the first play “Ambaar Dehatyag” by Barua Pukhuri, Jorhat, and the second play “Bipra Damodar Akhyan: Dantabakra’s Liberation” by Gyantaru Sanmilita Silpi Samaj, Golaghat, were staged.


On January 20, the first play “Dhruva Charitra” by Prayas Cultural Group, Philbari, Tinsukia, and the second play “Dushyanta–Shakuntala Reunion” by Murari Gadehaga Regional Children’s Bhaona Group, North Lakhimpur, were performed.
On January 21, the first play “Garudar Amrit Haran: Vinata Dasatya Mochan” by Shankar Madhav Silpi Samaj, Borhola, and the second play “Daksha Yagna” by Shri Batsa Silpi Samaj, Lahing, Naksari, were staged.


On January 22, the first play “Shakuni’s Revenge” by Alok Samanway Natya Group, Bhadai Pachaligaon, Duliajan, and the second play “Lakshman Barjan” by Madhusudan Silpi Samaj, Shimaluguri, Sivasagar, will be performed.

On January 23, the first play “Shri Shri Rama’s Defeat and Sita’s Descent to the Netherworld” by Nataghar Dimou Cultural Group, and the second play “Dhruva Charitra” by Abhinandan Cultural Group, N-Satra, Jorhat, will be staged.


On January 24, the Rangdoi D Gaon Children’s Bhaona Group will present “Bhagavat Darshan.” On the same night at 10 pm, the Bhaona results will be announced and the prize distribution ceremony will be held, informed celebration committee president Prafulla Bora.
Meanwhile, the Bhaona festival has been witnessing a large gathering of people from various places.
