GUWAHATI, May 16: The High Commissioner of Seychelles to India, Harisoa Lalatiana Accouche, called on Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhavan on Saturday and discussed issues of mutual interest between Assam and Seychelles.
Welcoming the envoy, the Governor said Seychelles is globally known for its natural beauty, ecological richness and biodiversity.
He added that Assam, located in northeastern India, is also recognised for its scenic beauty, cultural heritage and biodiversity.
Highlighting Assam’s attractions, Acharya referred to Kaziranga National Park, famous for the one-horned rhinoceros, along with the state’s tea gardens, the Brahmaputra river, muga silk and festivals such as Bihu.
He said the state offers immense potential for tourism and cultural engagement.
The Governor expressed hope for cultural exchange programmes between Assam and Seychelles to strengthen people-to-people ties and mutual understanding.
He observed that both regions share common interests in biodiversity conservation, environmental protection and sustainable development.
Acharya also stressed the importance of cooperation in ecological preservation, sustainable tourism, education and skill development.
He welcomed the possibility of academic exchanges and opportunities for students from Seychelles to study in educational institutions in Assam.
The Governor further highlighted Assam’s ongoing development in sectors such as infrastructure, connectivity, education and economic growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He said improved air, rail, road and inland waterway connectivity had created new opportunities for international partnerships and engagement.
During the meeting, the Seychelles High Commissioner invited the Governor to visit Seychelles. Both sides expressed optimism for stronger friendship and meaningful cooperation between Assam and Seychelles in the future.
