HOJAI, Oct 30: In a spirited ceremony held at the Barobari Durga Bari hall on Shivbari road, Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Samellan bestowed the ‘Sharad Samman 2023’ upon nine Durga Puja committees out of the 68 operating within the Hojai Municipal Area. The event saw the presence of esteemed personalities such as MLA Ram Krishna Ghosh, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest, and Chaturthi Rani Biswas, Chairperson of the Hojai Municipal Board, among other dignitaries.
Promode Rannjan Das, President of Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Samellan, initiated the proceedings with an inaugural speech. The lighting of the lamp was carried out by Vishwambhar Ghosh, the Ex-Chairman of the Hojai Municipal Board, marking the commencement of the ceremony.
To encourage healthy competition among the Durga Puja committees during the festive season, Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Samellan extended awards to committees excelling in various categories, including Idol, Pandal, and Cleanliness. The awards were aimed at recognizing excellence and dedication displayed by the committees.
The awards were distributed as follows: In the idol category, the first prize went to Hojai Bengali Barowari Durgabari; second prize to Aadarsh Durga Puja Samity and the third prize went to Railway Colony Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee. In the pandal category, the first prize went to Gandhi Maidan Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee; second prize (Joint) went to United Sporting Club, Krishna Nagar, and Abinaba Durgoutsav Samity, Bishnupally; and the third prize went to Gobindapally Sarbajanin Durgoutsav Samity. In the cleanliness category, the first prize went to Ramkrishna Sevashram Durga Puja Committee; the second prize went to Sudarshan Road Durga Puja Committee, Krishna Nagar and the third prize went to Joyram Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee, Ramthakur Mandir.
MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh commended the efforts of Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan in fostering cultural development in Hojai and appreciated the initiative to encourage healthy competition among the Puja committees. The event also featured a vibrant cultural program that enthralled all attendees.
Dr Pijush Nandi, secretary of Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Samellan, efficiently anchored the event, ensuring its success.
