DIPHU, Dec 20: Rengpoli Multispecialty Hospital and Research Centre, a private nursing home operating in Diphu town has been closed down following a show cause notice served by the joint director of Health Services, Karbi Anglong, Diphu, for expiry of the term of registration from the joint director of health services, Karbi Anglong to run a clinic (hospital).

The nursing home runs under a unit of Karbi Anglong Hospitals Pvt. Ltd. It was set-up on May 31, 2021 operating from a building owned by Diphu Municipal Board meant for hawkers and vendors at Rongbin Aklam, Matipung under Ward No 3 of Diphu town. The hospital has no appointed doctors and minor operations are conducted by visiting doctors.
The show cause notice issued by the joint director of Health Services, Karbi Anglong to the director and shareholders of Rengpoli Multispecialty Hospital and Research Centre, stated that a provisional registration certificate bearing registration No 1831400091 (valid for a period of one year) was provided to them under the clinical establishment (registration and regulation) act 2010.
Despite the expiry of the term of registration on April 30, 2022, the hospital was running illegally without having a registration certificate from the competent authority.
Under section 54 of the clinical establishment (registration and regulation) act 2010 (No.23 of 2010), the hospital administration is asked to give reply why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them within 5 days from the issue of the notice, following which a total shutdown of the hospital will be imposed, the notice read.
In the meantime, all OPD/ OT/emergency and other activities shall be stopped except treatment of existing IPD patients shall continue for 7 days until further order. The show cause notice was signed by Dr. Borsing Rongpi, i/c joint director of Health Services, cum convenor, District Registering Authority, Karbi Anglong.
Meanwhile, president, Karbi Students Association (KSA – Lumding Road), Thomson Rongpi while speaking to media persons said the hospital has been running without license for 8 months.
“They are playing with the lives of the people, which is very frightening to learn. The health & family welfare department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) should intervene in the matter,” he said.
