Sivasagar AASU Mukali Bihu Enthrals Bihu Revellers

SIVASAGAR, April 17: Sivasagar district AASU in association with the Mahkuma and Anchalik units observed the Mukali Bihu with great enthusiasm in Sivasagar Boarding Field on Saturday. Inaugurating the cultural evening programme, Sankarjyoti Baruah, secretary, AASU, said that the recent attempt by a section for diluting the Assamese Bihu with Hanuman Jayanti and other cultures will not be tolerated though AASU, he stressed, gives the highest priority in communal harmony in the state. Uddipta Jyoti Gogoi, adviser AASU, in his speech said that AASU is committed to protecting Assam and Assamese cultural, historical, and social identity and will continue to do whatever is possible for the betterment of Assamese society. Barnali Kalita, a noted singer, presented Bihu songs to large gatherings of Bihu revellers. The souvenir, ‘Gomseng’, edited by Muktab Ahmed ad Joyjyoti Gogoi, was released by Dr Dhrubajyoti Nath, principal, Namti SPP College.

Mukali Bihu organising committee with Naren Chetia as president, Manoj Kumar Borthakur, executive president, and Samiran Phukan as the secretary, felicitated Sivasagar DC Megha Nidhi Dahal, Sivasagar SP Subhrajit Saikia, addl SP Debajit Nath, addl SP Arif Ahmed, Diganta Tamuly, Brojen Phukan, Mahendra Bora, Ananda Gogoi, Pranoti Gohain, Manisha Borthakur, Manobjyoti Kalita, Manobjyoti Baruah, and Jipom Bora.
