Sivasagar district gears up for polling today

SIVASAGAR, April 18: With the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections only hours away, the Sivasagar district administration has completed all preparations in the district.

Voting will take place at 481 polling stations across the district on Friday. In Sivasagar Lok Sabha constituency 384,227 voters will exercise their right to franchise in 269 polling stations in Sivasagar Legislative Assembly constituency and 212 polling stations in the newly constituted Demow Legislative assembly constituency.

The district administration has taken various steps to ensure free and fair elections in Demow and Sivasagar segments. Number of male voters in the district is 189967, and the numbers of women voters 194258 while the number of third gender 2. Altogether 50 sector officers will monitor and coordinate with the presiding officers in the district.

Eight polling stations in the district will be operated by all women officers. A number of women officers on have expressed their excitement and enthusiasm to deliver their services as responsible citizens in a new role.

A total of 525 presiding officers and 1607 polling officers on Thursday received their poll materials at the Sivasagar Government HS School and proceeded to the designated polling stations with full security. There are six modal polling stations in the district.
