Sonitpur holds Sardar@150 Unity March

TEZPUR, Nov 1: The District Administration, Sonitpur, in collaboration with My Bharat, successfully organised the Sardar@150 – Unity March (PadYatra) on Saturday to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his invaluable contribution to the unity and integrity of the nation.

The programme began early in the morning at Church Field, Tezpur, with the gathering of participants including students, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and members of the SSB. The event was graced by the presence of  Member of Parliament of Sonitpur HPC Ranjit Dutta, MLA of Tezpur LAC Prithiraj Rava, District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, Additional District Commissioners Twahir Alam and Jintu Bora, Vice Chairman of AMTRON Ritu Baran Sarmah, Additional Superintendent of Police Moushumi Kalita and Satkhokai Changsan, Chairperson of Tezpur Municipal Board Ramen Tamuli, Assistant Commissioner Rajen Acharjya, noted social workers Madhusmita Hazarika Deka and Deepamoni Saikia, TDSA president Jiten Borthakur, and vice president of the All Assam Weightlifting Association Hiranya Bhuyan, among other dignitaries.

The event commenced with a floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, followed by a band performance by the students of Sacred Heart School. Addressing the gathering, the MP highlighted Sardar Patel’s pivotal role in uniting the nation. As part of the programme, a plantation drive was also carried out where dignitaries planted Nahor saplings.

The Unity March (PadYatra) was flagged off by MP Ranjit Dutta from Church Field and traversed key locations including Court Chariali, Tezpur Sadar Thana, Civil Hospital Chariali, Hatibilkhana Road, Tribeni Point, Kekura Pool and ASTC Bus Station before concluding back at Church Field. To mark the occasion, patriotic dance performances coordinated under the supervision of the District Cultural Development Officer were staged at various points along the route—Court Chariali, Tribeni Point and Church Field—adding vibrancy and cultural flavor to the celebration.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth volunteers, and officials. District Sports Officer Pranjal Dehingia, District Information and Public Relations Officer Ankita Gogoi, District Youth Officer of My Bharat, Sonitpur Kamal Tripathi, along with other officials of the District Administration, played active roles in organising and coordinating the programme. The Unity March served as a befitting tribute to the Iron Man of India and reaffirmed the spirit of unity, integrity and patriotism among the people of Sonitpur.
