Sonitpur observes Lok Kalyan Divas 2025

TEZPUR, Aug 5: The Sonitpur District Administration observed Lok Kalyan Divas 2025 on Tuesday, commemorating the 75th death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, Assam’s first chief minister and a key architect of modern Assam.

The event, held at Conference Hall-II of the District Commissioner’s Office, was part of state-wide observances. Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava attended as chief guest and delivered a commemorative address highlighting Bordoloi’s patriotism, his leadership in preserving Assam’s integrity, and his enduring popularity as a people’s leader.

District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, ACS, in his welcome speech, urged government employees to draw inspiration from Bordoloi’s ideals and commitment to public service.

Sharing personal experiences from his administrative journey, he emphasised the need for sincerity and a sense of responsibility, stating that one’s work reflects one’s identity.

Noted science writer and educationist Dr Ramesh Chandra Goswami also addressed the gathering, stressing the values of honesty, dedication, and diligence in public service.

He noted that such qualities enhance governance and set examples for others to follow.

As part of the programme, the District Level Lok Sewa Puraskar 2025 was conferred on three government employees of Sonitpur district in recognition of their exemplary service.

The recipients were Rupak Hazarika, Room Bearer at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner; Tankeswar Ojha, Physical Instructor at the Office of the District Sports Officer; and Bapdhan Das, Jarikarak at the Office of the Superintendent of Taxes (Recovery), Tezpur.

The programme was attended by District Development Commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia, CEO of Sonitpur Zila Parishad Karabi Saikia Karan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kabita Kakati Konwar, Chairperson of Tezpur Municipal Board Ramen Tamuli, and other departmental heads, officials, dignitaries, and staff of the district administration.
