HOJAI, March 12: SOS Children’s Village, Family Strengthening Hojai, observed International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024, centrally at the Dhanhuhar Basti cluster, where caregivers from all clusters like Milk Basti, Hawaipur, Hira Basti, and Dhanuhar Basti attended the program, a press release stated on Tuesday. The program started with addressing the distinguished guests of the day followed by a welcome song by Bal Panchayat members.
In the first session, an awareness program on different women’s rights and laws pertaining to safeguarding was shared by senior advocate DLSA Hojai, Sahana Begum Choudhry.
In the second session, an awareness program on mental health & how to manage stress and emotions was discussed by Dr Nibedita Pati, psychiatrist, District Hospital, Hojai, Government of Assam. Sangita Gour & Sunaki Saikia, block coordinators, ASRLM (Assam State Livelihood Mission), Jugijan Development Block, Hojai branch, attended the program. They both shared the different schemes available under ASRLM and how a person can become self-reliant by starting with a very small investment for livelihood, and the process to strengthen a group was discussed. A discussion on the linkage of SHG formed by SOS CV-FS was held, but considering the same members in SHG through ASRLM and already registered is not possible for new registration.
Pinki Saha, Panchayat president, joined as guest of honour and praised the work of SOS and also shared the noble work done by SOS during Covid-19 too. She praised the initiative taken by SOS CV for enhancing the capacity building of village women in all core aspects and strengthening the livelihood of her people. She informed that she is ready to support SOS work anytime and any time of need for the people of her Panchayat.
Chaturthi Biswas, chairman of Hojai Municipality Board, joined the program as chief guest and shared how the government is thinking of women empowerment and extending programs for the upliftment of rural women through SHG in all respects. Again, she also shared the good works done by SOS for the needy children and people of the locality. In the end, all the winners of different competitions organised for SHG like music chair, 3 leg race, quiz & SHG documentation competition were awarded with small tokens of gifts through the guests. Like every year, the best SHG, best animator, best caregivers for the year from all clusters were awarded with tokens of gifts by guests.
In the end, a dance competition was organised SHG wise and winners awarded on the spot. The Bal Panchayat members also performed different dances in the program. The program was supported by Vishal Mega Mart CSR Fund and concluded with a vote of thanks to the guests and all the participants to make the program a success. Chitta Ranjan Mohanty, AVD FS & Niranjan Das coordinated the program with the support of all animators & caregivers.
